I wanted to follow up on the pitch I sent last week for The Man Named Madlion, a documentary about my father Shedrack Madlion, who was kidnapped in Nigeria in 2018 and died from injuries sustained in captivity.

The story sits at the intersection of personal loss and a national crisis that is still accelerating. More than 600 Nigerians were kidnapped in 2024 alone, and children taken from their schools remain missing. My father was an agriculturist and agricultural engineer who spent his career arguing that Nigeria’s food sovereignty was its most urgent unfinished project. His kidnapping happened before the headlines. His death happened quietly. This documentary is the story of what that silence cost.
